Description

“Why does the colonial repression keeps coming back between Congo and Belgium? It is more than 60 years since the two countries supposedly distanced themselves from each other, since the Congo became independent… after having fought long and hard for its independence.
And yet, the more time passes, the more both sides of the power line continue to eat the bitter fruits of this common history. Is there no escape?
Congo Mania…
History is played and replayed again and again, in many forms, sometimes tragic, sometimes burlesque, sometimes revolting. Often unconscious. It are these multiple forms that I try to understand through my artistic approach and this project in particular, which combines photographs, video installations, sound and performances.
I explore these hidden layers, these layers buried between the Congo and Belgium, in an attempt to exorcise them in the tradition of pagan liturgies.”
