La journée de la poésie avec Ramsey Nasr et invités Lenny Oosterwijk

It is under the motto ‘Blossomings and abundance’ that Ramsey Nasr will kick off Poetry Week at Passa Porta in the Beurs café. Following his example, we put together an evening of abundance with blossoming new branches. Nisrine Mbarki will introduce her debut Oeverloos while Siel Verhanneman will present to us her new collection Wat nu met het licht dat binnenvalt. Newly appointed Belgian Poet Laureate Mustafa Kör will honour us with a visit and new work.

Dutch actor and author Ramsey Nasr wrote the Poetry Gift for this fifth edition which has ‘nature’ as its theme. The motto of Poetry Week is therefore also borrowed from his work: ‘Blossomings and abundance’.

Nisrine Mbarki is no stranger to Passa Porta. As writer-in-residence she has already translated poetry from Arabic and recently she was in Brussels writing Oeverloos, her debut collection, which she will present on Poetry Day.

Naturally, the newly appointed Belgian Poet Laureate could not be missing on Poetry Day. Mustafa Kör will hold the position with verve for the next two years and we are delighted that he is now already paying us a visit.

Siel Verhanneman will read from her new collection Wat nu met het licht dat binnenvalt. In her intimate poems, Verhanneman illuminates unaffectedly the impact of mourning on a person’s life. She has drawn inspiration from the work of Rodin, Basquiat and Bourgeois.

Moderator Annabelle Van Nieuwenhuyse will be in conversation with the poets between the readings.
