Brussels’ cultural life is storming back to life this summer. August is packed with tempting outdoor events: drive-in cinemas, live concerts, theatre in parks, festive moments to share and green events... Whether you're standing on the grass or perched on a rooftop, the city is an open-air stage and will take you on a journey without leaving the capital. We're sprinkling your summer with a healthy dose of open-air culture!
BRUSSELS IS A STAGE
Fancy a touch of freestyle dance? Every Wednesday, between 18:00 and 20:00, Detours Cyphers, propose a hip-hop battle on Mont des Arts Belgium's best dancers compete there, showing their creativity and dynamism. What's more, motivated onlookers can attend a workshop that combines genres and give dance a try themselves!
No need to wait for the start of the cultural season to enjoy the performance arts. The Théâtre National brings us "Ouvertures", a two-day outdoor event in Brussels that promises to get the city moving again. In partnership with 34zero Museum in Jette, this festival takes place on 5 and 6 September. Dance, performance, theatre, circus... imagine a series of new outdoor productions, punctuated by the changes in natural light and the movement of urban life. With notably Patrick Corillon, Justine Theizen, Rachel Ponsonby and Perry Rose…
A beach? In Brussels? Well, almost. Manchester plage is an alternative festival with an artsy, seaside atmosphere and a backdrop of DJ sets and culture, created by Recyclart and VK. Pop-up concerts, free shows, performances and DJ sets ring out every evening from Wednesday to Saturday. The summery programme guarantees you some fun and laid back summer evenings.
Every year, the Boghossian Foundation's Summer Parties are held in a very Riviera-style atmosphere. It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy some time by the water, chat in an Art Deco setting and sway with your feet in the pool. Why not take the opportunity to take a detour to Mappa Mundi, for this summer's exhibition?
OPEN AIR VIBES
A series of incredible locations and the blended sounds of world music... that's the way to combine the unusual with the pleasant! Once again this year, the Hide & Seek festival has found a panoply of atypical locations and renowned artists to add a touch of exoticism to the end of August: enjoy the sound of popular Moroccan music on the terrace of the KBR, be bewitched by the haunting music of Polish duo Mehehe at Laeken Cemetery or by the warm accents of the oud in the hangar of Emaillerie Belge.
What could be more delicious than enjoying some music in the shade of the Bois de la Cambre beech trees? Every Wednesday from August onwards, Jazz is going green at the Kiosque with JAZZ in the WOODS Vol.2. Lanterns, food to share and music... you'll be coming back for more!
At nightfall, we settle in the inner courtyard at Kumiko to experience the "Backyard Concerts". Invisible from the street, this little protected corner is fast becoming our favourite spot for electro summer evenings under Brussels' night sky. Dance or chill to the sound of Radio Martiko, DJ SoFa or DTM Funk.
CINEMA IN ALL ITS GLORY
America is in the air at Tour & Taxis. With Movie Drive, watch films from your car! Just like the drive-ins on the other side of the Atlantic, Europe's largest LED screen will show Trainspotting, Captain Marvel, the Lion King and Grease.
Under the elaborate domes of the Vaux Hall, Cinéma Galeries invites the people of Brussels to get into the summer spirit. Every Saturday in August, a series of feature films take you through the streets of Berlin, past and present. From the melancholy poetry of Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire to the twists and turns of the night world captured by the camera of Sebastian Schipper (Victoria), we are transported across borders in the blink of an eye!
WITH THE KIDS
What would summer be without wild games? A wide range of role-playing games and strategy games await you at Vaux Hall as part of Hello Summer. Spend endless days having fun with family and friends!
