“Starebaby proves Weiss as a boundless drummer and unlimited composer.” (JazzTrail) Drummer Dan Weiss’s band Starebaby present their first album at this concert. Expect a completely new sound, sometimes fleeting, sometimes raw, somewhere in between jazz, rock and metal. The New York Times has hailed Dan Weiss as one of the world’s top five drummers. He mainly owes this reputation to his two unanimously-acclaimed albums with large ensembles and his work as a soloist or as part of a three-piece ensemble. But this is Weiss’s first time performing with a five-piece ensemble. He dreamt for years of a collaboration with Craig Taborn, Matt Mitchell, Ben Monder and Trevor Dunn, and now the time has finally come. They call themselves Starebaby, releasing their first album in early 2018 which they will present at their concert at BOZAR. Weiss composed all the titles on the eponymous record. Expect a completely new sound, sometimes fleeting, sometimes raw, somewhere in between jazz, rock and metal. And yes, Starebaby means exactly that: a baby that stares. Weiss got the idea for the band name from a comment by the eight-year-old son of his friend about his daughter. That's friends for you. It's our treat!
