The innner demons of an 80's provocative artist
From 14 June to 22 September 2019, the Jewish Museum of Belgium is dedicating a major exhibition to Stéphane Mandelbaum (1961-1986), highlighting the dazzling talent of the Brussels artist, who was murdered at the age of 25. Through around a hundred works of art, mostly portraits, it will evoke a unique world between fiction and reality in which friends and family, Nazi dignitaries, poets, painters, filmmakers, prostitutes and gangsters appear side by side. A prodigious artist and a prominent figure in the art scene of the 1980s, his unique, iconoclastic and provocative work appears today strangely contemporary.
The exhibition is organised by the Centre Pompidou, Paris, in collaboration with the Jewish Museum of Belgium.
